President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
The Head of State thanked Ursula von der Leyen and the entire European Union for the 17th package of sanctions against Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the strict restrictions on the Russian tanker fleet, which serves to finance killings, as well as on all the schemes Russia uses to build up its military industry, a step in the right direction.
Increased pressure on Russia must motivate Moscow to move toward a genuine peace.
The President of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission discussed the preparations for the EU’s 18th sanctions package, which will target Russian oil, energy trade infrastructure, banks, and financial schemes.
The Head of State expressed his gratitude for advocating the strengthening of sanctions and for adopting the strong decisions.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ursula von der Leyen also discussed in detail yesterday’s conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the joint diplomatic work with partners aimed at establishing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. The President underscored that Europe must be involved in this process.
