President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Oana-Silvia Țoiu. This is her first visit to Ukraine since taking office.
"We are glad to welcome you. This is a strong signal to all our people, and, importantly, a very clear signal. We are proud to have such good relations between our nations," said the Head of State.
Oana-Silvia Țoiu noted that she came to Ukraine with a message of unwavering friendship between the two countries, conveyed by the President and government of Romania.
"We understand that your fight ensures security for our entire region, and we are deeply grateful for that," she emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Romania for its military and political support from the very beginning of the war, for its consistent position on Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO, and for strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
During the meeting, the security situation in the region was discussed. The President informed about intensified Russian attacks, including the strike on the Odesa region near the Romanian border on the night of August 6. The Head of State welcomed the decision of the Romanian parliament to authorize its military to shoot down Russian targets that enter Romania’s airspace.
The President of Ukraine and the Romanian Foreign Minister also focused on diplomatic efforts to end the war and joint work with partners.
They also discussed the continuation and expansion of training programs for Ukrainian military personnel in Romania – including F-16 pilots and marines.
Other topics included Ukraine’s and Moldova’s path to the EU and the development of bilateral relations, particularly joint infrastructure and energy projects. Ukraine and Romania will work to improve connectivity in the region, including with other partners in Southeast Europe, to bring countries, people, and businesses closer together.
The Head of State extended an invitation to Romanian President Nicușor Dan to visit Ukraine.
