Presidents of Ukraine and Türkiye Discussed Black Sea Security, Restoration of Food Exports, and a Potential Drone Deal

In New York, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Head of State thanked President Erdoğan for his consistent support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“It is truly very important that Russia’s war against Ukraine ends in exactly this way – with dignity and respect for international law,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.

During his address to the General Debate of the UN General Assembly on September 22, the President of Türkiye expressed strong and principled support for Ukraine and emphasized that Türkiye wants the war to end with Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity ensured.

The leaders discussed security in the Black Sea, first and foremost how to ensure the operation of the maritime export corridor.

“In fact, there are countries on every continent that depend on our food exports. And there are now various options on the table for how the corridor can be fully restored. What is needed is simply Russia’s readiness to stop its terrorist strikes on our infrastructure, so that Ukraine can reciprocally halt its long-range responses,” the President stressed.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also briefed Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on contacts with the American team.

The presidents separately discussed bilateral issues, including the free trade area and a potential Drone Deal. The Head of State thanked Türkiye for its readiness to help advance peace.
