Presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania Discuss Need to Increase Pressure on Russia Over Prolonged War

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.

The Head of State thanked President Nausėda for the invitation to take part in the Vilnius Summit with the Bucharest Nine and the Nordic countries, as well as for all the important decisions in support of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed his Lithuanian counterpart about the second round of negotiations with the Russian side held in Istanbul.

Particular attention was paid to the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia in response to its prolongation of the war. According to the President of Ukraine, this must be a coordinated effort by the United States, Europe, and other countries.

The leaders discussed in detail the current needs of Ukraine’s security and defense forces. President Zelenskyy emphasized that against the backdrop of Russia’s increased use of drones and missiles against Ukrainians, it is critical to continue reinforcing Ukraine’s air shield.

Special focus was placed on investments in Ukraine’s weapons production. Ukrainian missiles and drones have repeatedly proven their effectiveness, and therefore it is vital not only to maintain but to expand funding for domestic defense manufacturing.

The presidents also discussed the negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s EU membership. Lithuania supports Ukraine’s European integration and stands ready to contribute to the prompt opening of negotiating clusters.

The discussion also covered Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.
