President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Egypt’s support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and emphasized that our state is doing everything possible to end the war. At the same time, Russia continues to ignore diplomatic proposals from the international community and is not inclined toward constructive negotiations.
The President of Egypt acknowledged Ukraine’s efforts to end the war and assured that Egypt is ready to contribute to achieving a just and lasting peace.
The leaders discussed, among other things, the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on Egypt and other countries in the Middle East. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that despite the challenges, Ukraine remains a guarantor of food security and is ready to do more. He confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to establish a food logistics hub in Egypt.
The presidents focused closely on developing bilateral relations between the two countries, primarily in trade. Last year, trade turnover between Ukraine and Egypt exceeded USD 2 billion, nearly the same as before the full-scale Russian aggression began.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi agreed to work on increasing trade volume and to instruct their teams to begin preparing a preferential trade agreement and to hold a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission.
The Ukrainian leader invited the President of Egypt to visit Ukraine.
