Russia Chooses War, Destroys Our People’s Lives, and Must Be Held Accountable – Our Long-Range Capabilities Will Increase – Address by the President

Dear Ukrainians!

I held a Staff meeting. Energy sector: reports were delivered on protecting our facilities and restoring them. Today, there was another Russian strike on our gas infrastructure – just ahead of the heating season, the Russians are looking for ways to inflict more harm on our people. In this single strike, precisely on gas facilities, 35 missiles were launched, including ballistic ones. It was a combined strike, and we managed to shoot down only half of the missiles. The situation remains difficult in the Chernihiv region after drone strikes – in Slavutych, in Nizhyn, and also in Chernihiv itself. And in the Sumy region. In the evening, there was a ballistic strike in the Donetsk region – again targeting energy infrastructure. Kramatorsk, Slovyansk, Druzhkivka. Recovery efforts are underway. And I want to commend everyone who swiftly assists our people, carries out repairs, and replaces power sources. It’s crucial that all those who need support – in our every community – receive all the help they require. This is the direct responsibility of local leaders: from regional authorities to each city and each community. Resources for that assistance are available. I expect greater results from our military command – those responsible for the unmanned component, for air defense, and for covering the northeastern regions.

Today, there were also reports on our entirely justified strikes against Russian targets – against their logistics and fuel infrastructure. I am grateful to our warriors for their precision. Russia chooses war, Russia destroys our people’s lives, and must be held accountable – our long-range capabilities will increase. Russia now imports gasoline, and notably from across the map: from Asia – China and others – and from Europe, Belarus in particular. This is one of the consequences of Putin’s war: the gas-station-country isn’t selling fuel – it’s buying it. These are the right results produced by the Security Service of Ukraine, our Armed Forces of Ukraine, our intelligence agencies, and our Ukrainian arms manufacturers. We are now formulating the details of decisions – serious ones – on joint weapons production with our partners, those who contribute the most. Concrete projects, concrete benefits for our defense. In the future, there will also be productions localized in Ukraine. Productions that help protect our skies. I want to thank our partners for their interest in working with Ukraine on this and with our industry. Yesterday, at the Summit in Denmark – the European Political Community – much was discussed about our shared capabilities, about how to increase domestic security and help partners with theirs. We are preparing several new sanction decisions. This includes extensions of our expiring sanctions, and the introduction of new ones – particularly targeting companies and individuals working for the Russian defense industry. We will unify our sanctions with those of our partners, and the pressure on Russia will only grow. I want to thank everyone in the world who is helping! I thank everyone in Ukraine who is working for our state, our independence, and our people.

Glory to Ukraine!
