Development of Bilateral Cooperation and Ukraine’s Priorities at the World Urban Forum in Baku: Sergiy Kyslytsya Held a Meeting with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan

First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Sergiy Kyslytsya, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, Seymur Mardaliyev.

The sides discussed the implementation of agreements reached during President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Azerbaijan at the end of April, as well as the leaders’ phone conversation earlier this week.

Special attention was given to the development of dialogue and cooperation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan. This included political consultations, the work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, and engagement in the energy sector.

The parties also discussed preparations for the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku. Sergiy Kyslytsya noted that our country will be represented at a high level and expects the Ukrainian agenda to be among the priorities of the event.

The World Urban Forum is an international event dedicated to urbanization. Its participants work to identify solutions to challenges related to rapid urban growth and its impact on communities, cities, the economy, climate change, and public policy.

The First Deputy Head of the Presidential Office also raised the issue of urbicide – the systematic destruction of Ukrainian cities, communities, and civilian infrastructure by Russia. He stressed the importance of building broader international cooperation for the recovery of affected areas.

In addition, the sides discussed prospects for regional cooperation, particularly within the GUAM format, taking into account current security and economic challenges. Sergiy Kyslytsya and Seymur Mardaliyev agreed on the importance of maintaining dialogue and exploring new areas of cooperation among the member states of the Organization.
