Today Spain Joined the PURL Initiative, and Finland Announced a €100 Million Contribution – President

Spain and Finland have joined the PURL initiative, which enables the purchase of weapons for Ukraine from the United States using partner funds. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this during a meeting with journalists in Brussels.

“We want to thank everyone who has joined the PURL initiative, through which we purchase Patriot missiles from the United States,” the Head of State emphasized.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Finland announced its €100 million contribution today.

The President added that during today’s meetings with leaders of partner countries in Brussels, much attention was devoted to the implementation of PURL.

Within the framework of the initiative, six NATO member states have already financed four packages of defense support for Ukraine – the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Canada. Last week, Norway announced an additional $200 million in funding. Other Nordic and Baltic countries are now coordinating contributions to the fifth package. The total amount of contributions has already reached approximately $2.5 billion.

“In October, it covered the urgent needs. Now we need to focus on November. And not all promised contributions have actually arrived yet. But please, let’s speed this up. And I also ask other countries – those not yet in the program – to join. PURL doesn’t just help Ukraine – it also helps keep the U.S. interested in Europe. It shows America that Europe is doing its part. And that matters,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his address to the participants of the European Council meeting.
