President of Ukraine

Speeches

The world must not remain silent about this. Everyone must see that without pressure on Russia, they have no intention of genuinely ending their aggression. The pressure must increase.

We must defend the fundamental principles of Europe and of normal life for nations – independence, sovereignty, and democracy. And all of this must also be reflected in the agreement on ending the war.

Ukrainian independence and Polish independence are the foundation that enables every nation in our part of Europe to live freely.

Europe is – and will always be – the most important and most powerful democratic space in the world, and one of the strongest forces in the world standing for peace. No reward for the aggressor – that is the key principle of peace. And that is exactly what needs to be proven now.

Security measures are needed, financial measures are needed – including actions on Russian assets – political measures are needed. And the courage of all partners is required: to see the truth, acknowledge the truth, and act accordingly.

We must make Russia accept that there are rules in the world – and that it cannot deceive everyone. This is the path to lasting peace.

We are working towards joint defense production as well, including modern drones, in Ukraine and in the Netherlands. Ukraine is defending its independence, defending the lives of its people, and therefore, every step of support now carries special significance.

Europe has a very, very long history of wars, and it cannot afford to treat this lightly. All pressure on Russia must remain in place as long as occupation of our land continues. Russia must feel that it is a criminal.

We greatly value the bilateral agenda in our relations with Germany as well. We have just been together with the Chancellor at an economic forum – the Ukrainian–German business forum. Cooperation between our companies, as well as our joint projects – those of Ukraine and Germany – is what truly helps us.

Thank you! If Germany had been indifferent, Europe would not have been able to stand up to this evil that Russia has brought to our land. And it is a historic result that you chose the side of normal life, the side of Europe, the side of democracy, and that you are helping to defend against Russia’s aggression – an imperialist aggression, absolutely unjust.
