In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Andrey Gurov, during which the leaders signed a ten-year security agreement.
The Head of State thanked the Prime Minister for the visit and noted that the agreement provides for continued military support for Ukraine. Particular attention during the meeting was given to joint defense production, including drones.
“I would like to thank you for what we discussed – that Bulgaria will use the SAFE instrument for such co-production. I am grateful for this. I believe it strengthens both our countries, both our nations,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President and the Prime Minister also discussed cooperation in the energy sector, in particular work on the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor.
“For us today, this is very important. At the very least, it can serve as an alternative if there are certain blockages by some representatives of Europe – you know what I mean – regarding gas. This corridor could allow Ukraine to receive around 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year. For us, these are also energy security guarantees. I am grateful for this,” the Head of State noted.
Andrey Gurov also announced the decision of the Bulgarian government to contribute to the PURL initiative. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked him for the support and noted that the PURL initiative is an opportunity to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense strategy ahead of the next heating season.
According to the Prime Minister, Bulgaria will also continue to support Ukraine’s post-war recovery and provide assistance across various areas.
“We support Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. You can count on our support in this. We believe that security for Ukraine today means security for Europe,” Andrey Gurov said.
