President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy began his visit to New York by meeting with a bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators: Jeanne Shaheen, Dave McCormick, Sheldon Whitehouse, Chris Coons, Mark Kelly, Richard Blumenthal, and Peter Welch.
The Head of State thanked them for their strong bipartisan support for Ukraine and for passing the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill.
“This is absolutely the right step, and once it is fully implemented, peace and guaranteed security will certainly be closer,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
The sides agreed that their teams would work closely on sanctions.
The Head of State briefed the senators on the de-escalation proposals he will discuss with U.S. President Donald Trump on September 22.
They also raised Ukraine’s need for ballistic missile interceptors and the challenges it faces ahead of the coming winter. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that there are things Ukraine can do together with the United States to protect lives.
“American-made Patriot Systems cannot be replaced at this point, and the more anti-ballistic protection Ukraine has, the less emboldened Russia will be to continue its strikes and prolong the war,” the President noted.
