In Zaporizhzhia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honored the memory of Ukraine’s fallen defenders.
The Head of State laid flowers at the Tree of Memory installation, which is a key element of the future memorial complex dedicated to the fallen heroes of Zaporizhzhia – The Shelterbelt. Tree of Memory.
This 9-meter-high structure is the centerpiece of the complex. It consists of metal elements engraved with the names of fallen soldiers. The families of each fallen warrior place a metal tube with their loved one’s name on the tree, keeping another one as a personal memento.
The memorial complex will take the form of a 200-meter alley lined with tree trunks and branches shattered, burned, and scarred by war – reminiscent of the trees in the shelterbelts along the front line. The complex is intended to serve as a space of collective remembrance for the losses Ukraine has endured in its struggle for freedom and independence against Russian aggression.
