In Brussels, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.
The Head of State thanked the people of Sweden, the government, and Ulf Kristersson personally for their support for Ukraine and their joint efforts to ensure Europe’s security.
The President specifically highlighted the Swedish Prime Minister’s position that it is important to increase pressure on Russia and step up support for Ukraine, not the other way around. According to the Head of State, this is exactly what Europe’s collective response to Russia’s escalation should be.
The leaders discussed in detail what Ukraine needs to defend itself against constant attacks, first and foremost, stronger air defenses. The Head of State thanked Sweden for the agreements on Gripen fighter jets. Ukraine expects deliveries of these aircraft soon. They will complement Ukraine’s F-16s, particularly in shooting down jet-powered “shaheds.”
The meeting also focused on Ukraine’s path to EU membership and support for Ukraine’s energy sector as the country prepares for winter.
