President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting the decision of the National Security and Defense Council regarding the application of sanctions against three individuals and two legal entities.
Among them is a Russian boxer and fighter who publicly supports the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine and endorses the actions of the occupiers; the Russian Paralympic Committee and its president; and the Russian eSports Federation and its president. They use sports platforms to spread anti-Ukrainian narratives and Russian propaganda, attempting in this way to justify the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
By imposing these sanctions, our country is reminding the world, ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, that sports are not beyond politics. The sanctioned persons openly support aggression, war crimes, and occupation, thereby undermining the principles and values of the Olympic movement.
“I approved the next sanctions measures as well – decisions will follow shortly. Pressure on Russia must be maintained, and we will continue working on the synchronization of sanctions – not only regarding partners’ decisions within our jurisdiction, but also regarding Ukrainian sanctions decisions being reflected in the lists of partners. Even now, a significant share of partners’ personal sanctions, as well as entries in their lists against legal entities, is based on Ukraine’s proposals,” the President emphasized in his address.
