"The troops need a modern powerful weaponry, which will protect Ukraine from any aggressor, stop the aggressor, destroy it and protect the lives of our citizens. In any war, not only the human will triumphs, but also the modern military equipment multiplied by the highly professional knowledge of personnel," President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko noted during the festivities on the occasion of the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to him, it is precisely for this purpose that the state currently spends far beyond 5% of GDP, including 3%, as provided by the law on national security - directly for the army.
"The scheduled supply of modern and upgraded weapons and military equipment is now underway, first of all in the area of the JFO," the President said.
He also added that a powerful reserve of the Armed Forces has been created, which is ready to immediately stand up and defend our country.
The Head of State thanked Ukrainian soldiers, veterans, reservists for their courage, patriotism and readiness to protect their country. "This is a new country and a new army," Petro Poroshenko added.
Petro Poroshenko assured: "The state will continue to do its utmost to improve the provision of our Ukrainian troops with modern and upgraded equipment and weapons". At the same time, he noted that the country is working with a very limited financial resource, and every penny of the taxpayer today, if possible, goes to the defense and security sector, to the Ukrainian army.
According to him, certain symbolic changes in social security of warriors also take place. The program of construction of dormitories for the military is being implemented. “The source for financing the program for the construction of dormitories is $ 1.5 billion confiscated from the previous authorities and aimed at defense needs. This is the production of ammunition, the construction of dormitories, the purchase of new weapons. The money that has been stolen from the Ukrainian people must work for the Ukrainian army,” he said.
The Head of State reminded that in general, throughout Ukraine, 184 dormitories are being built for more than 23 thousand military contractors.
The President also stressed that next year, the amount of material support for the military personnel will increase by 30% on average. "Even by more than 30%. From January 1, the Ukrainian soldier will receive more than 10 thousand hryvnias compared with 7 thousand hryvnias today. This is a warrior-contractor of the first year of service," he explained.
