Volodymyr Zelenskyy Met with Keir Starmer in Évian

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer.

The leaders discussed the implementation of agreements reached by partners during today’s G7–Ukraine meeting.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the support for Ukraine and for a new decision: the allocation of £210 million for the supply of enriched uranium to support Ukraine’s nuclear industry.

The President also expressed special appreciation for another UK sanctions step against Russia, targeting Russia’s shadow fleet and financial networks used to circumvent sanctions. The new British measures have, for the first time, been applied to tankers transporting Russian liquefied natural gas. The Head of State stressed the importance of finding a legal mechanism that would allow not only stopping vessels carrying sanctioned energy resources but also seizing them.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Russia continues to reject negotiations, ignore diplomatic efforts, and brazenly strike Ukrainian cities. Therefore, decisive steps are needed to support diplomacy: stronger economic pressure, new sanctions on Russia’s energy sector, and depriving it of the ability to use its shadow fleet. The leaders discussed potential areas for further sanctions.

The President informed Keir Starmer about the consequences of Russian attacks. The Head of State and the Prime Minister discussed the possible participation of the United Kingdom in the restoration of damaged parts of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The leaders also discussed steps needed to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. Strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, including anti-ballistic systems, remains the most urgent priority.
