Office of the President Holds a Discussion on Strengthening Sanctions Pressure on the Russian Federation with Lithuanian Delegation

Advisor – Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Sanctions Policy, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, met with a Lithuanian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė.

The main focus of the discussion was the strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia for its aggression against Ukraine. Vladyslav Vlasiuk highlighted the active engagement of Lithuania and the other Baltic states in this effort.

The Presidential Commissioner briefed the delegation on Ukraine’s recent steps to synchronize sanctions with its partners, in particular decrees by which the President enacted relevant decisions of the National Security and Defense Council.

According to Vladyslav Vlasiuk, one of the primary goals of sanctions policy remains to deprive the Russian Federation of access to advanced Western technologies and microelectronics, as the missiles and drones used in attacks against Ukraine contain dozens of such components.

In particular, it is important to limit Russia’s ability to use third countries and intermediaries to obtain critical elements for its defense industry. Effective export controls on dual-use goods are also essential, as certain legal loopholes and gaps in supply chains undermine the effectiveness of sanctions.

Another priority is sanctions against financial networks that Russia employs to circumvent Western restrictions.

The meeting also addressed ways to improve coordination of sanctions policy among EU member states.

Both the Ukrainian and Lithuanian sides emphasized the need for the European Union to adopt its 19th sanctions package against Russia as soon as possible.
