Preparatory work has begun in Ukraine for the reburial of Andriy Melnyk, leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, and his wife Sofia. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address.
The Head of State stressed that Ukraine is launching a process of bringing home the heroes who fought for the independence of our country and were buried in other states, including in European countries and the United States.
“We are bringing them home. We have both the opportunity and the moral duty to rebury them here in Ukraine, at home. A process has now begun regarding Colonel Andriy Melnyk and his wife Sofia – iconic Ukrainians of the twentieth century who are deeply respected,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President said that preparations are also underway for decisions on the reburial in Ukraine of Colonel Yevhen Konovalets and other prominent historical figures.
“The Ukrainian people deserve their historical memory – and we are strengthening this true memory. I thank everyone who is helping us,” the Head of State emphasized.
