The first working session of the newly established Coordination Platform for Humanitarian Response was held under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk and UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Matthias Schmale.
This platform is designed to enhance coordination between the state, donors, and humanitarian organizations in order to provide more effective assistance to Ukrainians amid the ongoing war.
The session was attended by representatives of donor country embassies, as well as international and Ukrainian non-governmental organizations.
Key topics of discussion included activity priorities for the second half of the year, particularly preparations for the winter period.
Participants analyzed current challenges, discussed ways to improve the efficiency of joint efforts, and approved core priorities: assistance to frontline communities, support for internally displaced persons, evacuation from combat zones, humanitarian aid for those affected by Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure, winterization, and the arrangement of school shelters.
“Ukrainians must be not only resilient but also enduring. Geopolitical shifts are reducing donor funding. That means the humanitarian community must be ready to do more with fewer resources. And this will require discipline in setting priorities and coordinating efforts,” emphasized Iryna Vereshchuk.
