President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Iryna Venediktova's candidacy to the post of Prosecutor General in the Verkhovna Rada. The people's deputies endorsed her appointment by 269 votes.
"I am proposing that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine consent to the appointment of Venediktova Iryna Valentynivna to the post of Prosecutor General of Ukraine," the Head of State said during a speech at an extraordinary session of the Parliament.
The President noted that the current situation in our country requires uninterrupted and highly professional work of all public authorities, especially law enforcement bodies.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that professional and moral qualities of the candidate proposed to the position of Prosecutor General will make it possible to ensure a stable and coordinated work of the prosecuting authorities, eliminate corruption in this system and effectively investigate resonant criminal cases.
The President noted that for the first time in the history of independent Ukraine, a woman may become Prosecutor General.
"But it seems to me that she will go down in history of Ukraine first of all as a professional and productive person," the Head of State said.
