Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Christine Lagarde Discussed the Fair Use of Frozen Russian Assets to Defend Against Russia’s War and Rebuild Life in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone call with President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde.

The Head of State informed her about the overnight Russian attack and strikes on Ukraine’s energy system. Russia launched more than 450 drones and dozens of missiles, including ballistic ones. Repair crews and power engineers are currently working across various regions to restore normal life. According to the President, it is important to truly hold Russia accountable for prolonging the war and attempting to destroy life.

The parties discussed how to ensure the fair use of frozen Russian assets to protect against Russia’s war and to help rebuild life in Ukraine. There are solutions for how this can be done. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Christine Lagarde for her support.

The Head of State emphasized that sufficient political will is needed in Europe, as most of these assets are concentrated there. He added that the majority of partners support Ukraine’s position on this matter, and therefore Ukraine counts on action.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Christine Lagarde agreed to work closely together with other European leaders.
