Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mette Frederiksen Coordinated Positions Ahead of the Nordic-Baltic Eight Leaders’ Meeting

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen held a one-on-one meeting at the Marienborg residence.

The leaders discussed key aspects of the future security architecture and aligned their positions ahead of the Nordic-Baltic Eight Leaders’ Meeting.

They also talked about continuing defense support, including expanding the Danish model for boosting Ukrainian drone production. This model has already proven effective and strengthened Ukraine’s defense industry capabilities. The parties also discussed the implementation of agreements on Ukrainian-Danish weapons production. Denmark was the first country to open joint plants with Ukraine to produce weapons for our country. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mette Frederiksen also spoke about deepening this partnership.

The leaders addressed the development of the PURL program. The President thanked Denmark for its participation in this initiative. So far, NATO member states have allocated more than $2 billion for the purchase of American weapons.

Special attention was given to the negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. The President expressed gratitude for the support of the joint and simultaneous advancement of Ukraine and Moldova both now and in the future. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mette Frederiksen agreed on their next steps to find a truly fair solution.

In addition, they discussed the need to increase pressure on Russia. The leaders agreed that the 19th EU sanctions package should include more sanctions against the banking sector, secondary sanctions, and sanctions targeting Russia’s shadow fleet – including shipowners, captains, and crew members.
