Volodymyr Zelenskyy Discussed Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

“Thank you for your visit. I had a constructive dialogue with your President. Please convey my regards to him. Thank you for your support,” the Head of State said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy also highlighted Ghana’s consistent support for Ukraine’s positions in United Nations forums.

“Yesterday we had a very important resolution, and for us it was crucial to receive at least as much support – even at the political level – as in previous years. Because this is always a struggle not only for our independence and freedom – which is extremely important, but also a fight for influence over other countries and the world, and an effort not to lose focus on Ukraine,” the President emphasized.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ghana stated that his country continues to support Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“Our position has not changed. We remain committed to the UN Charter. We reaffirm our support for the territorial integrity of countries. We must not tolerate any attempts to undermine the UN Charter or encroach on sovereign states,” Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stressed.

The meeting also covered the development of bilateral cooperation and sectors where partnership between the countries could potentially deepen. Discussions focused on defense cooperation, the agro-industrial sector, and expanding educational programs for Ghanaian students in Ukrainian higher education institutions.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also discussed the importance of actively countering Russian recruitment of citizens of Ghana and other countries in Africa to participate in the aggressive war against Ukraine. On Russia’s side, 272 Ghanaian citizens and around 1,700 citizens from other African countries are currently fighting.

The meeting further addressed Ghana’s upcoming priorities as chair of the African Union next year.
