President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone call with President of the European Council António Costa.
António Costa informed that a European Council meeting had been held to discuss the outcomes of negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that an important step had been taken toward ending the war and ensuring security for Ukraine and all of Europe. He emphasized that reliable security guarantees for Ukraine, which will work in practice, are the most important achievement of the joint efforts of all partners and of Ukrainians defending their independence.
The conversation also touched on the results of the European Council meeting, future joint actions, and an agreement to continue working closely together. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine values the unity and unwavering support of the European Union.
They also discussed further joint steps and the preparation of the new 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia. The President of Ukraine underscored that pressure must be increased until Russia takes real steps to stop the war.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and António Costa also discussed the importance of unity among all 27 EU member states for Ukraine’s path toward EU membership and the opening of negotiation clusters.
