Volodymyr Zelenskyy and António Costa Discussed Work to Open Negotiation Clusters and Strengthen Sanctions Against Russia

In Yerevan, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with President of the European Council António Costa.

The Head of State thanked António Costa for his leadership in unblocking the €90 billion financial support package. Ukraine expects to receive the first tranches as soon as possible in order to direct the funds toward joint drone production and preparations for winter.

Particular attention was given to the work to open negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Our country is fully technically ready and expects all six clusters to be opened during this and next month.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and António Costa also discussed strengthening sanctions against Russia. The President of Ukraine thanked him for the European Union’s 20th sanctions package and emphasized that Ukraine expects stronger sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet in the next package.

The parties also discussed diplomatic efforts to achieve a dignified peace. The Head of State informed him about the pause that has emerged in the negotiations due to the war in Iran and about contacts with the American side.
