Our Partners Have Decided on New Contributions to the PURL Initiative – They Are Coming in June – Address by the President

Dear Ukrainians!

The key updates for today. At the moment, all necessary services are deployed in Dnipro following Russian strikes. The attack involved “shaheds” and ballistic missiles targeting food warehouses and a postal terminal. It is important that everyone supports Dnipro and every one of our cities, our every community that comes under Russian attack.

Today, Mark Rutte was in Ukraine, together with ambassadors of all NATO member states. The Ukraine–NATO Council met. Representatives of all Allied countries were present here in Ukraine, after Russia tried to squeeze our partners out of Ukraine and intimidate embassies. The result was a highly symbolic meeting in Kyiv, and the main message from the meeting is clear: Ukraine should be supported more. Especially in areas such as anti-ballistic capabilities. Our partners have decided on new contributions to the PURL initiative – they are coming in June. This will help. We are also doing everything possible to accelerate Europe’s work on its own anti-ballistic capabilities – it is essential that Europe has its own systems, its own missiles for protection. The capacity to build an anti-ballistic system in Europe exists, and all the necessary conditions for production are there as well. Political decisions must be implemented as quickly as possible. I am grateful to every country that is working with us on this task – France, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, and others. Europe will truly become stronger when this is achieved. Not if, but when. And it will happen, but time matters greatly, and we must be more agile. We discussed with the NATO Secretary General the NATO Summit in Ankara – Ukraine has been invited, and we will be represented. And the key is for the Summit to deliver results for Ukraine. Anti-ballistic defense is one of the potential outcomes.

I also spoke today with Keir, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. We are preparing for negotiations and meetings, and this concerns both weapons for our defense and our diplomacy – our joint diplomacy with Europe – to bring the war closer to an end. Europe needs its own voice, its own position, and its own contribution to all diplomatic efforts that can help end this war. The E3 format – the United Kingdom, France, and Germany – is effective. Plus the Nordics.

I also spoke today with Jonas, the Prime Minister of Norway. I am grateful for your support, Jonas. Of course, the United States – we are in daily contact with them. We very much expect them to shift their focus from the Iranian issue to European matters. The war that Russia launched against Europe is, in fact, a war it is waging against the entire democratic world, and everyone must do their part to stop Russian aggression and its constant attempts to destabilize everyone around it.

And one more thing.

I want to commend our warriors who are applying Ukraine’s long-range sanctions. Thank you, warriors, for your precision! The Security Service of Ukraine, Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Foreign Intelligence Service, and other branches involved, you are bringing Russia’s war back to its "native harbor" in the most tangible way – and it is there that this war must end. Ukraine needs peace. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine!

Glory to Ukraine!
