I Approved Our Long-Range Action Plans for June, and We Must Creatively Expand Ukraine’s Long-Range Sanctions, Which Proved Their Power in May – Address by the President

I wish you good health, fellow Ukrainians!

There are several important things to say about today. I received reports from our military officials – Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and the General Staff, Andrii Hnatov – on our frontline activity, our actions against the occupier, and the Russian assaults. This month saw changes in the dynamics in our favor, in Ukraine’s favor. We are holding more positions and inflicting more damage. The impact of our long-range sanctions against Russia has been especially significant. Today, I approved our long-range action plans for June, and we must creatively expand Ukraine’s long-range sanctions, which proved their power in May. I am grateful to all our warriors for their precision. We also discussed the situation on the front – the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions, the Kharkiv region, and our Zaporizhzhia – focusing on the key details. I defined the decisions that must be implemented, and to support this, we will increase supplies to our troops. UGVs, drones, and dedicated funding for combat brigades – these remain our unwavering priorities.

Today, we had an in-depth discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, on Ukraine’s tasks for May and June. There is a lot of bilateral work underway. It is also very important that there is communication at the level of our teams with the new government of Hungary. Ukraine is interested in normal, good-neighborly relations and full-scale cooperation. And we are doing our part to make that happen. We also had positive contacts between Ukraine and Georgia – it is time to normalize our relations. Of course, we are substantively working on the European institutional track. Ukraine deserves to be part of the European Union, and even during the war, while fighting for our independence and defending our statehood, we are moving forward towards Ukraine’s full European integration. We are ready for the opening of the clusters as part of the negotiation process, and we are staying in contact to make sure a clear timetable for these steps is defined. We are also preparing this week for substantive engagement with key European countries.

And one more thing.

Something that Ukrainians and Ukraine have long hoped to begin. To bring back to our land, to our independent and sovereign state, with the proper respect, those who fought for Ukraine, who sought independence for Ukraine. But the times were different, and the possibilities were different. Our Ukrainian heroes of different generations, who defended the idea of Independence, fought for our state, and were buried across Europe, in America, and in other countries – we are bringing them home. We have both the opportunity and the moral duty to rebury them here in Ukraine, at home. A process has now begun regarding Colonel Andriy Melnyk and his wife Sofia – iconic Ukrainians of the twentieth century who are deeply respected. Decisions are also being prepared regarding Colonel Yevhen Konovalets and other major historical figures. The Ukrainian people deserve their historical memory – and we are strengthening this true memory. I thank everyone who is helping us. The Office team is currently focused, in particular, on this task. Thank you.

Glory to Ukraine!
