Dear attendees, our teams, dear journalists,
It is important that we are here like this – together – Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, and Romania. On Moldova’s Independence Day, and just a few days after Ukraine marked its Independence Day. These days, Maia was in our capital – supporting us and our independence. I am very grateful. Today, we are supporting Moldova’s independence. All of this is much more than mere symbolism.
When you are a neighbor of Russia, you need to cooperate as closely as possible with all your other neighbors, with all other free nations. This is a key prerequisite for reliable defense and, more broadly, a prerequisite for development.
Unfortunately, our peoples have already had to experience unfreedom – precisely because of Moscow. This must remain in the past. From now on, and forever, we must safeguard our independence, safeguard our freedom, and therefore our ability to develop our own potential – our own life.
I am very grateful to the peoples of Moldova and Romania for supporting us so sincerely, for sincerely supporting Ukraine and our people during such a terrible war. You see what Russia has brought to Ukraine and what it threatens every one of its neighbors with. In just the past 24 hours, and in Kyiv alone, there have already been eleven air raid alerts so far because of “shaheds” and ballistic missiles. In some of our cities and communities, air raid alerts and strikes occur virtually every day, constantly. We all understand how insane Russia is, and we must help one another, help in such a way that any threats to our peoples receive a worthy response.
Today, we discussed joint work in the energy sector and the infrastructure that connects us and constitutes a significant part of the economic potential and national security of our countries. It is important that everything that truly can contribute to the strength of our nations actually does so. And we have such agreements between us, between our governments.
We particularly value the readiness to cooperate so that the Solidarity Lanes for exports in our region can operate at full capacity, despite Russia’s attempts to block our ports and our maritime trade. We are natural allies with Moldova and Romania in logistics, energy, and many other areas – and it is important to build on this. This is what makes all of us stronger.
Ukraine is ready to support the development of the security capabilities of our neighbors – both Moldova and Romania. The leaders know the details, and we expect our joint steps to deliver results.
Of course, we always coordinate our efforts on European integration. This is very important. We share the same goal – full membership of Ukraine and Moldova in the European Union – and I am grateful to Romania for supporting our countries in their relations with the European Union and at the level of EU institutions. We will definitely be together in the European Union. And may this wish – success in integration and concrete joint results for security and for ensuring peace for our nations – be our main wish to you today.
