Ukraine's creative industry should open Europe's markets - President on the development of the IT sector and other high-tech industries

President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes the importance of developing the Ukrainian IT sector and other high-tech industries with high added value as a strategic direction of the economy, which has significant potential for development in our country and in the European and world markets.

"The IT sector already gives 4% of GDP, gives work to about one hundred and fifty thousand Ukrainians. It is expected that in the next one and a half or two years this figure will increase to two hundred thousand. What is extremely important - we are talking about high-income jobs," the President emphasized the development of this new branch of the economy, which has skyrocketed in recent years. He emphasizes that it is the IT sector that can help Ukraine increase its share of the middle class. "The middle class is extremely important for stability, stability of the economy and the country as a whole," Petro Poroshenko added.

"But, despite the very dynamic growth rate of the Ukrainian IT sector - more than 20% per year, unfortunately, we still account for less than 1% of the global IT market. We have to take a leadership position. We have all conditions for this," he said.

"Speaking about the IT sector, Ukraine has to move from the IT outsourcing to the creative development of the Internet. We have all conditions for this. Education, talented IT specialists, market," Petro Poroshenko said. At the same time, he stressed that to date, the corresponding draft law prepared by his team had already been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to "open the markets of Europe for the creative industry of Ukraine".

The Head of State also emphasized the importance of introducing such modern technology as telemedicine for the needs of the rural population. "We have learned the experience of the advanced countries. This technology will allow to provide medical consultations in the remote settlements using modern information technologies," Petro Poroshenko said, adding that "we have to provide high-quality high-speed broadband Internet in each village in order to implement this project”. "Remember - where there is electricity, there will be the Internet in Ukraine," he summed up.

The President also highlighted traditionally strong areas for Ukraine, such as aircraft and space industry, shipbuilding, military-industrial complex.

"Ukraine is also traditionally one of the top ten armament exporters worldwide. Each workplace in these industries provides at least 10-15 jobs in adjacent ones. We have something to offer in the field of strategic air transportation, such as Antonov aircrafts. The capacities of Yuzhmash and other enterprises make it possible to increase the number of rocket and satellite launches with Ukrainian components several-fold," the President said.
