Due to the tragedy that occurred on January 21, 2021 as a result of the fire in the home for the elderly in the city of Kharkiv and led to human casualties, as well as to honor the memory of the deceased, January 23 is declared a day of mourning in Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with the newly elected leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), Minister-President of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia Armin Laschet. The President of Ukraine became the first leader to negotiate with the new leader of the CDU immediately after the confirmation of the party's election results.

During a working trip to Kharkiv due to the fire in a home for the elderly, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on mechanisms to prevent such emergencies.

The state must create all conditions for the elderly who need care and support to be able to receive high-quality social services, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In Kharkiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the home for the elderly, where a fire broke out on January 21. During the inspection of the site of the tragedy, Deputy Minister of the Interior Serhii Yarovyi reported to the President on the circumstances of the emergency situation and the course of rescuing people and extinguishing the fire.

January 23 in Ukraine will be declared a day of mourning at the national level due to the death of 15 people in a fire that broke out in the home for the elderly in the city of Kharkiv.

Due to the fire that broke out yesterday in the home for the elderly, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Kharkiv on a working trip.

On the Day of Unity, January 22, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in a ceremony honoring the memory of President of the Ukrainian People’s Republic Mykhailo Hrushevsky.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy received a letter from President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen following the 22nd Ukraine-EU Summit, which took place on October 6, 2020 in Brussels.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting on the priority issues on the agenda of the Ukrainian authorities in 2021 and discussed a roadmap for their solution. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Razumkov, MPs and chairmen of parliamentary committees, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, his deputies and advisers.
