The President and the OECD Secretary-General Discussed the Implementation of Reforms Needed to Accelerate Progress Toward EU Membership

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann, who is visiting our country for the fourth time.

“It is important that the OECD supports Ukraine and Ukrainians. I think that today we can take a very important step toward future OECD membership, and our Government works on it,” the Head of State said.

During the meeting, they discussed Ukraine’s progress on its path toward European integration. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine expects the remaining five negotiating clusters with the European Union to be opened in the coming weeks. According to the President, it would be symbolic for such a decision to be taken by July 15, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood.

They also discussed the implementation of the European Union’s financial support package, strengthening sanctions against Russia, and engagement with partners. The Head of State spoke about the meetings and agreements reached at the recent G7 Summit in France.

Mathias Cormann emphasized that the OECD supports Ukraine’s reform efforts, which Ukrainians continue to advance even in the midst of war. He noted that the OECD had presented reviews of infrastructure policy, public administration, and the justice sector, all of which demonstrated Ukraine’s progress in implementing reforms.

“We want Ukraine to achieve a just, secure, and lasting peace. The number one priority. But beyond that, I feel really honored to be supporting your Government in its reform and modernization effort, and your efforts,” the OECD Secretary-General said.
