President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Military Ombudsman Olha Reshetylova (Kobylynska).
Olha Reshetylova reported that in its first four months of work, the Office of the Military Ombudsman processed more than 8,000 complaints and restored the rights of thousands of servicemembers. The largest number of complaints concerns treatment and referrals to military medical commissions.
During the meeting, they discussed transparency in the calculation of monetary allowances, the need for unified criteria for recording additional payments, and transparent financial document flow.
According to the Military Ombudsman, the development of infrastructure to protect the rights of foreign citizens and stateless persons who have stood up to defend Ukraine remains a focus of attention. The Office of the Military Ombudsman conducted a comprehensive study and has already presented the relevant proposals.
They also discussed systemic violations in certain units of the Defense Forces. Olha Reshetylova noted that it is important for commanders to be ready not to conceal problems, but to resolve them and cooperate with the Office of the Military Ombudsman.
The meeting also addressed cooperation between the Office of the Military Ombudsman and the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, and other components of the security and defense sector. The Office of the Military Ombudsman is developing an analytical center to study the causes and conditions of violations of servicemembers’ rights and provides relevant data to military command bodies for use in decision-making.
The Head of State approved holding the first international forum of military ombudsmen in Kyiv. Ukraine has unique experience in building a system to protect the rights of servicemembers during a full-scale war and is ready to share its work with partners. Olha Reshetylova is finalizing all the details, after which the proposals will be presented to the public.
