President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz to discuss the strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense and to coordinate the next joint steps.
The leaders coordinated their positions ahead of the Coalition of the Willing meeting to be held in London. The Head of State emphasized the need to move forward with the development of security guarantees for Ukraine.
The President spoke about the consequences of Russia’s targeted strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine counts on Germany’s leadership in providing energy support. The parties discussed the need for equipment for the gas industry and funding for gas imports.
Special attention was given to decisions that could further strengthen Ukraine’s air defense. The President thanked Germany for its significant contribution to protecting Ukrainian lives. The leaders discussed specific steps and the possibility for Germany to continue reinforcing Ukraine’s air defense.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Friedrich Merz also discussed the mechanism that will allow using frozen Russian assets to defend Ukraine. The Head of State emphasized the importance of Germany’s support for this initiative.
