In Rome, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, during which they discussed defense support for Ukraine, cooperation within the Coalition of the Willing, and increased pressure on Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again congratulated Anthony Albanese on his election victory and expressed gratitude to Australia and the Australian people for their support of Ukraine.
The Head of State briefed the Prime Minister on the negotiations in Istanbul and emphasized that Russia is currently doing everything it can to prolong the war and the killings.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine coordinates its efforts with U.S. President Donald Trump and consistently supports American proposals.
The two leaders discussed which specific sanctions could compel Russia to stop placing conditions on an unconditional ceasefire, as well as the coordination of steps with partners.
“It is a good thing that we have allies from different continents. Together we can truly bring the current situation closer to peace by exerting pressure on Russia. And we are very grateful for the sanctions,” the Head of State said.
Defense support was also a separate topic of discussion. The Prime Minister of Australia confirmed that Abrams tanks are already on their way to Ukraine, and that the total amount of aid provided has reached $1.5 billion.
“Russia’s illegal aggression must be stopped, and we stand clearly and unequivocally on the side of Ukraine. Of course, we also call for peace and insist that it is Ukraine that should determine its future,” Anthony Albanese emphasized.
The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Australia also discussed Australia’s potential participation in the Coalition of the Willing and in future security guarantees for Ukraine following the achievement of a just and lasting peace.
