President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees awarding Orders “For Courage” to Sergeant Vladyslav Rozhkovskyi (Omar) of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade “Kholodny Yar,” who rescued people after a Russian terrorist strike on a passenger train in the Kharkiv region, and to Radio Liberty war reporter Maryan Kushnir, who carried a child out of a burning apartment after a Russian attack on the Kyiv region.
Vladyslav Rozhkovskyi was one of the passengers on the train that Russia attacked with strike drones on January 27 this year. Together with the train crew, he was among the first to help people evacuate from damaged and burning railcars and to provide first aid to everyone who needed it. In particular, the warrior helped a woman with an infant get out of the railcar and also carried out her belongings and the belongings of other passengers.
There were more than 200 people on the train, and 18 passengers were in the railcar hit by one of the Russian drones. As a result of this terrorist attack, five people were killed, two others were wounded, and one person is considered missing.
Vladyslav Rozhkovskyi has been serving in the military since May 2022 and has taken part in operations to hold back the enemy in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. He is the commander of a fiber-optic FPV drone crew. Under his command, a large amount of enemy military equipment and occupiers has been destroyed in the areas of Kurdiumivka, Klishchiivka, Poltavka, Andriivka, and Rusyn Yar.
On the night of January 28, Russia carried out a drone strike on a residential building in Bilohorodka, Kyiv region. Tragically, a woman and a man were killed. However, Maryan Kushnir managed to rescue a four-year-old child from a burning apartment.
In 2022, the President of Ukraine awarded Maryan Kushnir the Order of Merit, III class. Throughout the years of the war, the war reporter has documented combat operations in challenging areas – in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. In March 2022, he sustained a concussion while filming the repulse of the Russian offensive in the Kyiv region. Maryan Kushnir is a recipient of the “Honor of the Profession” journalism award (2022, 2024).
