In Madrid, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Order of Princess Olga, III class, to Sister María Lucía Caram Padilla, Director of the Santa Clara Convent Foundation.
Sister María Lucía first travelled to Ukraine in 2015 to see with her own eyes the consequences of Russian aggression. In particular, she visited medical facilities where she spoke with wounded warriors.
“Thank you very much for your support. You have visited my home country more than 40 times since the very beginning of the Russian aggression. And each time, I know you leave a piece of your heart, you pray, you help our warriors undergoing treatment, and you provide substantial humanitarian assistance. We are truly grateful,” the Head of State said.
Through cooperation with the Foundation, Ukraine has received vehicles, medicines, blankets, surgical equipment, generators, clothing, a mobile hospital, and ICU ambulances.
Sister María Lucía has also worked with the Ministry of Defense of Spain and volunteers to organize recreation for nearly 250 cadets of the Military Lyceum of the State Border Guard Service and for the children of border guards affected by the war.
Sister María Lucía expressed her support for Ukraine, emphasizing that Ukrainians are defending not only themselves, but all of Europe.
