During a working visit to Moldova to participate in the second meeting of the European Political Community, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu.
The Head of State noted that he was glad to be in Moldova. "It was not easy to come here, but this is a message from all Ukrainians that we really support Moldova and the people of Moldova. We are really happy to walk together historically, side by side. First of all, I thank the Moldovans - you have been sheltering our people since the first days of the full-scale war. We will never forget this," the President of Ukraine said.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he discussed with Maia Sandu the issues of bilateral relations, some infrastructure projects that are a priority for implementation in the near future, as well as the European future of the two countries.
The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine is ready to join NATO and is waiting when the Alliance will be ready to invite it.
"I think security guarantees are important not only for Ukraine. They are also important for Moldova, because Russia is carrying out aggression in Ukraine and there is a potential threat of aggression in other parts of Europe," he said.
The President said that he is glad to have the opportunity to discuss the aviation coalition and the Patriot coalition with partners today.
"These are our new initiatives. We really need this," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.
According to him, there are also plans to discuss the Ukrainian Peace Formula. The Head of State added that Ukraine initiates the holding of the relevant summit.
For her part, Maia Sandu noted that it is a great honor for Moldova to host this meeting of the European Political Community, and it is very important that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is taking part in it. She said that important issues will be discussed during the meeting, including support for Ukraine, which is countering Russian aggression.
According to the Moldovan President, the main topics to be discussed include the bilateral agenda, joint infrastructure projects, "Solidarity Lanes" and the European future of the two countries.
"Today, Ukraine ensures the security of Moldova, and we are very grateful for this. Moldova respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. Moldova also supports the Peace Formula proposed by President Zelenskyy. And, of course, we support the establishment of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine," Maia Sandu said.
She called for support, faith and investment in Ukraine and Moldova as a contribution to democracy, stability and peace in Europe.
In the framework of the summit, the President of Ukraine also met with Prime Minister of Moldova Dorin Recean. The parties discussed topical security issues given the challenges caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dorin Recean focused on joint infrastructure projects and further development of cooperation in the energy sector.
