In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with President of Honduras Nasry Asfura. This is the first visit by the head of this Central American state in the history of bilateral relations and the first-ever meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Honduras.

The President of Ukraine thanked Nasry Asfura, who took office in January 2026, for changing Honduras’ course and for supporting our state on all key international platforms. In particular, on February 24 this year, Honduras voted in favor of the UN General Assembly Resolution “Support for a Lasting Peace in Ukraine.”
“Ukraine is fighting so that the whole world unites around our independence, around our struggle for independence. Ukraine worked for a long time to build support in Latin America, Central America, support in Asia, the Middle East, and in other countries – important countries and continents,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The Head of State noted that, to protect lives, Ukraine needs support in defending itself – primarily by strengthening its air defenses – and in protecting our independence at the geopolitical level.
“Every Ukrainian citizen is a hero – the one who defends principles, values, freedom, democracy, and their own beliefs. We support you. We always believe in democracy, in freedom,” said Nasry Asfura.
The leaders discussed key areas for the development of bilateral relations: the agro-industrial sector, economic cooperation, and digitalization. Honduras is interested in Ukraine’s experience in digital transformation, and our country is ready to help.

Honduras is also interested in Ukraine’s defense technologies and drone sector. Nasry Asfura believes that it is important to cooperate in all areas where countries can strengthen one another.
“We will develop these relations. We are very interested in Ukrainian technologies. All the experience Ukraine has in agriculture, in drone production, and in all technologies that can be useful in Honduras – we are interested in all of it,” he stressed.
The parties also discussed increasing trade turnover between the two countries. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it is currently small but tends to grow, and it's important to build on that.
Following the meeting, the President of Ukraine and the President of Honduras signed a Joint Statement. The leaders confirmed their interest in strengthening friendly relations between the states, deepening political dialogue, and expanding cooperation in bilateral, regional, and multilateral formats.

The Presidents stressed that any diplomatic efforts to achieve peace for Ukraine must be based on respect for the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rule of international law.
“If there have been no official visits or meetings between presidents for more than 30 years, it is clear that there could not have been much economic cooperation between our countries. Especially since we understand perfectly well how Russia has operated in Central America, how it continues to do so, and how extensive its efforts are: the information landscape, a variety of narratives. That is why I am truly grateful to the President for changing this. And I believe both countries will benefit from it,” the President of Ukraine concluded.
