First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, together with Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Mayor of Oslo Anne Lindboe, and Ukraine’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, attended the unveiling of a monument to Queen Ellisiv, the wife of King Harald Hardrada of Norway. Elizabeth of Kyiv, the eldest daughter of Yaroslav the Wise, Prince of Kyiv, married King Harald Hardrada in 1045.

“It is especially moving that the marriage of Ellisiv and King Harald Hardrada was not merely a dynastic matter, but also an expression of affection – we know this because poems written by the future king and dedicated to his bride have survived,” the First Lady said.
The President’s wife also noted that Oslo itself was founded during the reign of this royal couple.
“Thus, Ukrainian–Norwegian friendship began almost a thousand years ago, not merely with diplomatic agreements, but with human relationships, mutual support, and trust that we can still see today. Ukraine is receiving vital support from Norway, and thousands of Ukrainians have found a temporary home and safety here,” Olena Zelenska said.
The First Lady also spoke with members of the Ukrainian community who attended the unveiling ceremony.
