Chaired by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, the first meeting on the installation of a monument to Hetman Ivan Mazepa in central Kyiv took place.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk; the Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy of Ukraine – Minister of Culture, Tetyana Berezhna; the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko; the Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Iryna Vereshchuk; as well as representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration and the Ministry of Culture.
Participants discussed proposals and ideas for the development of public space and infrastructure that should reflect Ivan Mazepa's historical role. The monument to the Hetman is planned to be installed at the start of Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, in the heart of the capital. Special attention was paid to the involvement of city residents, experts, and professionals in the discussion of the monument project and the broader architectural concept of the surrounding area.
It was agreed to develop a plan for an architectural design competition, public consultations, and roundtable discussions dedicated to the installation of the monument to Ivan Mazepa. The Cabinet of Ministers is to consider a resolution that would enable consultations with the National Union of Architects and the announcement of the design competition. The Verkhovna Rada, the Government, the Office of the President, and local authorities will jointly work through all organizational and technical issues.
On Constitution Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy initiated the installation of a monument to Ivan Mazepa on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard in Kyiv.
“Without doubt, a figure of this scale deserves a full-fledged monument in the capital of our state. I believe that there is an ideal location for it. It has been there since December 2013 on Shevchenko Boulevard, and I am certain that where Lenin fell, Mazepa will stand firm,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
