A large-scale road construction project begins in March in Ukraine - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Road construction is a priority for the Ukrainian authorities, that is why the implementation of the Great Construction project begins on March 1, 2020, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

"We want to connect all corners of our country with high-quality communications: East, West, North, South. We have to strengthen cultural and social ties, and to make important social facilities accessible: our hospitals, kindergartens and hub schools,” the Head of State said during the “Knit Ukraine Together: Security, Construction, Financing” event at the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it is planned to upgrade 4 thousand kilometers of roads of national importance in 2020. Unprecedented funds are provided for that - more than 85 billion UAH.

“This is, first, 31 billion from the State Road Fund. Second, more than 19 billion attracted from banks under state guarantees. Last week, I signed amendments to the Budget Code and the State Budget for 2020 allowing Ukravtodor to do all this,” the President said.

Part of the funds that Naftogaz of Ukraine received from Gazprom following the results of the Stockholm Arbitration is also provided for the construction of state roads.

In addition, the Head of State stressed the importance of building local roads.

“We aim to build 2.5 thousand kilometers of local roads this year. A record 22.2 billion hryvnias have been allocated to achieve this. This is 70% more than in 2019,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President noted that large-scale construction of roads would help create about 12 thousand new jobs in Ukraine.

"The government must adopt all the necessary decisions shortly to start work as soon as possible and efficiently use these funds," the Head of State stressed.
