In Évian, where this year’s G7 Summit is taking place, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz.
The Head of State thanked Germany for supporting Ukraine and for its leadership in strengthening Ukrainian air defense and protecting people from massive Russian attacks.
The President and the Federal Chancellor discussed the further strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense, the supply of additional air defense systems and missiles for them, as well as the situation on the battlefield and the results of Ukraine’s long-range sanctions. The leaders exchanged views on steps that could further weaken Russia’s ability to continue the war and force it to the negotiating table.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Friedrich Merz spoke about work on the Drone Deal, Germany’s additional contributions to the PURL initiative, and cooperation between Ukrainian and German companies in the production of anti-ballistic systems.
Special attention was paid to implementing what was agreed during today’s G7–Ukraine meeting.
The Head of State thanked Germany for supporting Ukraine on its path toward the European Union. The leaders discussed the importance of the decision to open the first negotiating cluster for Ukraine and Moldova, which the EU adopted recently. The President noted that our country is already fully prepared to open the remaining five clusters this month.
