Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Friedrich Merz Coordinated a Joint Position and Next Steps

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz to exchange views on the current situation and coordinate their next steps.

The leaders share the view that the war must be ended with a dignified peace as soon as possible, and Europe must take part in all relevant processes. After all, Ukraine is part of Europe, and the parameters for ending the war will shape the security landscape for all European nations for decades to come.

The conversation also touched upon preparations for the online meeting of national security advisors from Ukraine, the United States, and European countries, which is scheduled for today. The parties will align their shared views during this meeting.

President Zelenskyy and Chancellor Merz also discussed a topic raised yesterday – potential formats for upcoming leader-level meetings: two bilateral and one trilateral. The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine is not afraid of meetings and expects the same brave approach from the Russian side.

Additionally, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Friedrich Merz discussed defense support for Ukraine and Germany’s participation in the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) initiative to procure U.S.-made weapons. The Chancellor confirmed that Germany would contribute to funding air defense systems and meeting other urgent needs.
