In Yerevan, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer.
The Head of State thanked the people and the Government of the United Kingdom for their support for Ukraine and separately highlighted the United Kingdom’s steps in countering Russia’s shadow fleet.
“You have set a strong example for other countries regarding the shadow fleet. And I think the Russian economy is feeling it, especially this year. We are also grateful for all your training missions for our warriors,” the President noted.
The Head of State expressed special gratitude to King Charles III for his words of support for Ukraine during his address to the U.S. Congress.
“As always, I convey and reaffirm the United Kingdom’s support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, and I salute your continued courage and resilience – both on the frontline and among civilians. Every time we think of Ukraine in the United Kingdom, we think of both those on the frontline and civilians,” Keir Starmer emphasized.
The leaders discussed defense support for Ukraine, in particular contributions to the PURL initiative.
They also addressed the negotiation process to achieve a just and dignified peace. The Head of State noted that Ukraine is ready for the next round of negotiations in a trilateral format. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom emphasized the importance of continuing pressure on Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Keir Starmer coordinated bilateral and multilateral contacts for the near term, including preparations for a meeting in the E3 – Ukraine format: the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
The leaders also discussed support for Ukraine’s energy sector. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine counts on further contributions from the United Kingdom toward the restoration of energy infrastructure.
The Head of State briefed on the situation on the battlefield and emphasized that Russia is not achieving success on the frontline. The President also spoke about Russia’s strikes against Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Europe must coordinate its efforts and develop a joint air defense system to protect against threats from Russia.
