Volodymyr Zelenskyy Held a Phone Call with Narendra Modi

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

The Head of State congratulated Narendra Modi on India’s upcoming Independence Day, celebrated on August 15, and thanked him for his warm words of support for the Ukrainian people.

The leaders discussed in detail all important issues of bilateral cooperation and the overall diplomatic situation.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed about Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and villages. In July alone, Russia used more than 5,100 guided aerial bombs, over 3,800 “shaheds,” and nearly 260 missiles against Ukraine, including 128 ballistic ones.

The President separately emphasized yesterday’s Russian bombing of an urban area – a bus station in Zaporizhzhia – which injured dozens of people. The Head of State stressed that this happened at a time when a diplomatic opportunity to end the war had emerged. Yet instead of demonstrating readiness for a ceasefire, Russia is showing only its desire to continue the occupation and killings.

Narendra Modi expressed support for Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. The leaders share a common position: everything concerning Ukraine must be decided with Ukraine’s participation. Other formats will not yield results.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Narendra Modi also discussed sanctions against Russia in detail. The President emphasized the need to restrict exports of Russian energy resources, particularly oil, to reduce Russia’s potential and ability to finance the continuation of the war. The Head of State underscored that it is important now for every leader with tangible leverage over Russia to send the corresponding signals to Moscow.

The President and the Prime Minister agreed to schedule a personal meeting in September at the UN General Assembly and to work on arranging an exchange of visits.
