President of Ukraine and Prime Minister of Moldova launched joint control on the border crossing point: We continue developing border infrastructure

In the course of the working trip to Odesa region, President Petro Poroshenko visited “Kuchurhan” international border crossing point on the Ukraine-Moldova border to launch the joint customs and border crossing control on “Kuchurhan-Pervomaisc” border crossing point with Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip.

“We continue our joint work aimed to develop border infrastructure, inter alia, in cooperation with our EU partners to provide more comfortable conditions for our citizens,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The Head of State emphasized that the people of Ukraine and Moldova had a long history of friendship, good neighborliness and partnership.

“From now on, Ukrainian and Moldovan border guards and customs officials together with EUBAM representatives will work jointly to ensure security and comfort of our citizens,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President reminded that in 2009, a joint control with the EU – EUBAM mission – was established in 2009. “The representatives of this mission are together with us today. They will take constant participation in the joint control, so that we will ensure security, transparency and comfort for those crossing the border,” Petro Poroshenko noted. The Head of State instructed the State Fiscal Service to facilitate the expansion of the EUBAM mission to the other border crossing points to ensure transparent and efficient struggle against smuggling and corruption.

The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Moldova also discussed the holding of the session of the Ukraine-Moldova Intergovernmental Commission for Trade-Economic Cooperation that will take place in September. “This, inter alia, concerns the supply of Ukrainian electricity to Moldova,” the Head of State added.

The parties agreed to form a common agenda for the Eastern Partnership Summit that will be held in autumn. The Head of State will visit Georgia shortly. “Our coordination within the Eastern Partnership with our reliable and strategic partners, including Moldova and Georgia, is wonderful. I am grateful to the government of Moldova and personally to Mr. Prime Minister,” Petro Poroshenko said.

In his turn, Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip noted: “Organization of joint control on “Kuchurhan-Pervomaisc” border crossing point and on the other border crossing points in the future is a good sign for our states and a new step forward in the implementation of common actions”.

The Prime Minister of Moldova congratulated the people of Ukraine on the introduction of the visa-free regime with the EU.
