On his way to Canada, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, at Keflavík International Airport.
The Head of State thanked Iceland for all its support and for its active participation in the Ukraine – Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8) format. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Iceland has allocated $133 million for defense and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, as well as more than $24 million for the PURL program.
The President briefed the Minister on Ukraine’s needs as it prepares for winter, with strengthening Ukrainian air defense remaining the top priority. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that active work is currently underway with all partners that can help.
They also discussed energy security in general and energy cooperation between Ukraine and Iceland. Ukraine is counting on further contributions from Iceland to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The funds previously provided by Iceland are already being used to purchase a cogeneration unit, power transformers, and other critical equipment.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the technology sector. Our country has significant experience in this area and is ready to build partnerships with countries that support us and are interested in Ukrainian expertise.
