Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva held a meeting with Dominik Mutter, Political Director of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
Ihor Zhovkva noted Germany’s leadership in providing assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, particularly military aid, and expressed special gratitude for Germany’s significant role in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
“We are grateful for the recent transfer of two air defense systems to Ukraine, as well as for Germany’s contribution to NATO’s PURL initiative to procure weapons in the United States. Germany has financed a separate third package within this initiative,” the Deputy Head of the Office of the President said.
A total of five packages have already been formed under the PURL initiative. Germany’s first contribution amounted to $500 million; just days ago, the country announced a second contribution of more than $170 million, and with these funds, a sixth package is now being finalized. This brings Germany’s total contribution to more than $670 million.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the diplomatic efforts of the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, and other partner countries aimed at achieving a genuine peace, as well as Germany’s role in this process and in readiness to provide Ukraine with reliable and effective security guarantees.
“A strong Armed Forces of Ukraine is the best guarantee of our country’s security. We are grateful to Germany for its substantial assistance in strengthening our defense capabilities and for its readiness to support our defense capacities in the years ahead,” Ihor Zhovkva emphasized.
Special attention was given to the opening of negotiating clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Both sides share the position that it is essential to ensure absolute unity among European Union member states with regard to this decision. Ukraine and Germany will continue close coordination of their steps toward our country’s integration into the European Union.
