President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
The Head of State thanked the European Union for its continued assistance to Ukraine and emphasized the personal support of Kaja Kallas.
During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and the decisions needed to strengthen energy resilience and protection against Russian aggression.
“We expect strong decisions from the European Union. We already have several strong decisions in place. We have reached agreements with some leaders separately, and we also expect decisions from the European Union,” the President said.
Kaja Kallas emphasized that the priority is to help Ukraine defend itself, as this will prevent damage to critical infrastructure. In addition, European specialists are currently assessing what kind of assistance Ukraine needs to restore its energy system.
Special attention was given to the use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s defense and recovery, as well as to the adoption of the EU’s 19th sanctions package against Russia.
“The Russian economy is already weak. We are further weakening it through our sanctions, so that they eventually stop financing this war,” said Kaja Kallas.
The parties also discussed defense support in detail, including joint production efforts and the implementation of the SAFE instrument.
In addition, the meeting addressed Ukraine’s path toward EU membership. The President noted that by early November, our country will be technically ready on all six negotiating clusters.
“Ukraine has done a great deal on its part to truly fulfill the necessary conditions. And we, on our side, are also working to advance the accession process – to give Ukrainians hope,” said the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The parties also discussed the launch of a Special Tribunal for the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“A very important signal that Kaja Kallas brought is regarding the Special Tribunal. A decision has been made on the allocation of EU funds. This is important. The issue itself is important. It shows that we are talking about justice,” the Head of State concluded.
