First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska took part in the presentation of a therapeutic garden.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs in partnership with VDNG as part of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine – an initiative launched by the First Lady. A multidisciplinary team of experts worked on the project together with veterans, service members, and their families.
The therapeutic garden will combine horticultural, physical, and art therapy, with zones for individual relaxation and a dedicated space for children. Specialists will work in this space with military personnel, veterans, and their families. At the same time, it will remain a safe, accessible, and open space for everyone.
“This space is about dignity. The dignity of a person returning from the front or recovering from trauma. And the dignity of our society – to be ready to support and create conditions that help. Interaction with nature is one of the most effective, proven practices in the healing process. A space like this should exist in every city and every community. And today, we are taking the first step,” said Olena Zelenska.
During the event, organizers presented the concept and map of the future garden and showcased a visual representation of the space. Participants also symbolically planted the first flowers.
The pilot project at VDNG is intended to serve as a model that can later be scaled to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and public spaces across the country.
The opening of the therapeutic garden is scheduled for August this year.
